About Sheet Metal Deep

When I was a kid, I dreamed of becoming a car designer.  I doodled cars obsessively, even redesigning existing cars to correct what I determined where stylistic flaws, or just to make them more aerodynamic.

While my Mom didn't mind my obsession, my dad was less than thrilled.  And it didn't help that there were no schools in New York that specialized in automotive design.  I was told that I'd need to move to Detroit or California.  This was never going to happen.

So, I gave up on that dream, and over 20 years later, all that remains is a drawer full of sketches that are collecting dust.  But I still go to car shows and just gaze at the new cars, analyzing their styling and wondering how they were developed, or how the hell they were approved for production.

From cars and trucks to concepts and classics, this blog will provide commentary on automotive design from a casual observer's prospective.
